Registration for Introduction to Suzuki Cello
Designed for young children and their parents, this sampler class introduces the cello through the Suzuki Method and prepares families for future private lessons. Parents will learn the principles behind Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s mother-tongue teaching philosophy and how to incorporate them in the pivotal early stages of music instruction. Children will learn to distinguish musical elements of rhythm, tone and pitch while establishing muscle memory, focus, balance, and coordination necessary for playing the cello. Activities will incorporate movement, singing, and parental involvement. Parents should expect to practice 5-10 min a day with their child between class meetings. Families will be prepared to pursue private cello lessons following this class.
Parent attendance is required and child care should be arranged for siblings. Every class will feature student and parent activities. An instrument is not needed for this class. Materials needed include a digital recording of Suzuki Cello Volume 1 and a height appropriate chair/stool. A copy of Dr. Suzuki’s Nurtured by Love is included in tuition.
