Cello study is a teamwork effort of positive reinforcement that involves the student, parent, and teacher. Using the Suzuki Method model, students receive instruction at home, in the weekly lesson, and in group class. Daily lessons are led by the parent, who is the home teacher. Weekly private lessons are led by me at my home studio in Lake Barrington or at my Music Institute of Chicago studio in Winnetka. Group lessons are held once a week with other studio families.
Lesson length for the private weekly lesson is set by age, experience, and my recommendation.
Group classes foster community across the studio and are an extension of the private lesson. Attendance from the student and parent is important and expected. We reinforce lesson concepts, review and polish shared repertoire, incorporate music theory and music history, build ensemble skills, and learn from each other. Once a month, an informal performance class will be held instead of the regular group class. Students will practice performing for each other with an accompanist.

Miss Julia is a kind, warm and thoughtful teacher. She quickly built a strong connection with my six year old. This strong teacher/student connection allowed Miss Julia to challenge Evelyn to try new things without hesitation. My daughter always looked forward to her lessons. Even if they were reinforcing or perfecting previously learned skills, Miss Julia found new and innovative ways to make the practice new and exciting. Miss Julia also provided clear weekly expectations for what to focus on during practice sessions, which I truly appreciated as a parent supporting my child. She encouraged parents to take videos and copious notes and was always happy to answer questions as they arose during the week. My daughter and I would highly recommend her! Her passion for sharing her love of music is contagious!
